About the Dish
Sabudana Khichdi consists of tapioca pearls (regional name- Sabudana or Sago). This is a Maharashtrian delicacy and people usually make it when they are fasting. Sabudana Khichdi is a popular dish throughout India and gains demand during fasts on days of Shivratri or Navratri. In major cities like Mumbai, Pune, Jaipur, Nagpur, and others, it’s a famous street food delicacy. It’s also known as Sabudana Usal in Maharashtra’s Vidarbha region and is a healthy delicacy as it is gluten-free and promotes muscle growth.
How to Eat
The dish is supposed to be enjoyed hot with some curd to balance the meal. The sabudana has a soft texture when eating but the groundnuts give it a crunchy texture as well. It can be consumed as a snack or as a meal at lunch and not very spicy.
