About the Dish
Bhagar Kheer is a Punjabi delicacy, that removes rice from the equation to make it a healthy delicacy. Also known as, samak ki kheer or vrat ke chawal ki kheer, it’s a sweet delicacy. Bhagar kheer is popular during fasting because of its stomach-friendly ingredients. It has several variations in different households, but our chef uses her family recipe, which makes it authentic and yummy. Bhagar or Barnyard millet is a healthy ingredient as it’s rich in fiber, it makes this dish gluten-free, and is a good source of iron.
How to Eat
The best way to enjoy it is without any accompaniments as it has a great taste on its own. It's a sweet delicacy that is healthy as well as nutritious and has a thick consistency after the cooking the milk with bhagar. It can be enjoyed hot or cold and can be eaten as a meal during fasting or as a dessert on a normal day.
