As the Rajput’s were setting up their rule in the region, Bati was their ideal meal during war. Some say that, the soldiers would leave the batis in the sand to bake while they were at war. After returning, they would consume it covered with ghee and with some curd. Dal Bati is a popular delicacy in the Western states of India like, Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, Gujarat, and others. The best way to enjoy the dish is to break the Bati, add some Gatte ki sabzi, dal, and chutney to it. Mix it with your hands or a spoon and enjoy. The dish is supposed to be enjoyed hot as the Bati is thick and covered with ghee. The dish, overall, is mildly spicy and it can be consumed at lunch or dinner.
